Research Associate 1 Technical Position in the Pyter Lab, Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research, Ohio State University

Function Statement:  To help design, execute, and organize an NIH-funded laboratory research project or study; to organize the processing and analysis of experimental data and the conduct of experimental tests and procedures, and develop new and/or revised research methodologies.

Characteristic duties: 75% Designs, conducts, and manages research projects in the fields of cancer immunology, gut microbiome, neuroimmunology and behavior; designs, develops, and executes complex laboratory experiments including: rodent survival surgeries and advanced physiological, cellular, and molecular techniques (cell flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, quantitative PCR); assists with preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and research reports for peer-reviewed publication and grant proposals to obtain external research funding

25% Manages research assistants and other staff; Participates in weekly staff meetings and evaluation of the research staff; provides technical assistance and supervision in experimental design and implementation; provides technical assistance in the operation, set-up, and maintenance of research equipment and research tools; oversees daily laboratory operations including: ordering supplies and reagents, maintaining laboratory equipment, and monitoring laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations

Qualifications: A master's degree in a biological health science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science is required. A minimum of 2-year commitment is required.
