Short Description Summarizing Position: Full-time, 100%, (12-month), renewable appointment (contingent on funding) in animal science, immunology and neuroscience.

Responsibilities: The Department seeks a highly motivated individual to study immunology relative to animal behavior, with an emphasis on epilepsy. The successful candidate will be charged with developing and testing methods to reduce seizures using mice as the experimental model within the primary disciplines of behavior and immunology. The individual will specifically focus on murine viral infection and the work will involve both animal and in vitro opportunities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with two other laboratories with expertise in viral infection and animal behavior, including assessment of seizures, cognition and anxiety.

Responsibilities include:

- Treat and evaluate mice for ictogenesis, epilepsy and behaviors (cognitive, anxiety and depression)

- Evaluate immunologic response to viral infection, including qPCR, flow cytometry and IHC

- Perform laboratory work including care and handling of live animals

- Prepare and order materials needed for the project

- Collect data in a rigorous manner

- Provide data analysis using statistical platforms, prepare reports and manuscripts

- Supervise undergraduate students and interact with graduate students

- Assist with preparation of grant applications and renewals

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Animal Sciences or closely related field. Must be able to work legally in the U.S. Demonstrated experience working with small rodents in a laboratory setting and general laboratory techniques. Interest and experience in immunology, neuroscience and animal behavior is preferred. Excellent writing, communication, and statistical skills. A commitment to research and an ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible after the close of the search.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
