POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW: Psychosocial and Cancer Immunology Research in Patients with Glioblastoma


The Department of Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has an immediate opening for one Post-Doctoral Fellow. Through multiple large philanthropic donations, this position features 3 years of stable support for both yearly stipend support and salary increases, as well as a large research project budget. The position is open to start immediately and no later than August 1st, 2019. The scholar will work closely and collaboratively with the Principal Investigator of the Brain Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Laboratory, Dr. Derek A. Wainwright, PhD, ( as well as with his clinical and basic research colleagues in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Psychology, Preventive Medicine, Immunology, and Pharmacology at Northwestern University. The Fellow will be committed at 100% effort on a highly novel project for the field of neuro-oncology that, combines the interdisciplinary study of brain cancer, immunology, immunotherapy, psychology, and aging. The Fellow will have access to both glioblastoma patient tissues (blood and tumor) from past and currently ongoing clinical trials, electronic medical record data from the Northwestern Medicine Hospital system (including historical data from >1,500 glioblastoma patients), as well as well-validated preclinical brain tumor modeling systems for addressing mechanistically-motivated questions. Notably, the laboratory recently published a prolific and comprehensive review on the subject, here: Primary responsibilities of the Fellow will include oversight of the projects, data analysis, and co-authoring manuscripts with Drs. Wainwright, collaborators of the Wainwright Laboratory, and with other members on the team. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in a biomedical discipline prior to starting the position. Strong quantitative skills for multilevel data analysis, previous work in animal modeling, strong oral and written communication skills, as well as experience with cancer immunology, neuroimmunology, psychoneuroimmunology, and/or aging research are desired.
